Studio 29 Photography - Photography Workshop - Rad Photographers Retreat 2018

MEET YOUR SPEAKER | Ren from Studio 29 Photography

I have loved this girl and her work for so long! She is not only a rad human in all aspects. But, she’s also a rad calligrapher, designer, dog mama, wife, photographer and killing it on her personal blog – House Fur! I am excited to have her part of this year’s retreat! She will be talking about how to get published and marketing yourself on Instagram.

Get to know her a little better below!

What surprised you the most about owning your own business?
How much I would become addicted to working. I started Studio 29 Photography on July 26, 2010 and it wasn’t until just last year that I started scheduling time off. When you love something so much and are able to make it a career it is very hard to make a life-work balance that works for not only you, but your family and friends.
What do you like LEAST about your career?
invoicing, book keeping for tax purposes, and emailing.
The best advice for your clients?
When we work, we are basically hanging out. We like our consults, sessions, wedding days to be like any other day; but maybe with nicer clothes and more cake than a normal day. 😉 Just be yourself and we will take care of the rest.
What is your go-to music to work to?
I like a laid-back-deep-base-heavy-instrumental-electronica-mumbled-lyric soundscape.
Did a blog post on my lifestyle blog: https://housefur.com/spotify-editing-playlist/
Best advice you’ve received?
From a previous client that is now a friend; “People love you and they will love you even more if you reveal your true self to them.”
What advice would you give an aspiring woman interested in your career or any career?
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t or you shouldn’t. Don’t anyone tell you that being an entrepreneur is easy. I worked as a personal trainer and accountant until I was able to support myself. I worked about 17 hours a day for over 2 years before making Studio 29 a full-time career.
What are at least THREE things you cannot live without on a daily basis?
My dogs, kombucha, my parents.
What does your day normally look like?
Wake up, slam kombucha.
Answer emails + scroll through instagram and thumb tap for 30 minutes.
Make coffee, walk the dogs, shower.
Edit.
Drive to photo sessions whilst listening to a podcast.
Photo sessions; I do 1-3 photo shoots a day during the week from May-October, Tuesday-Friday. And then we photograph weddings on weekends.
Come home, download & backup photos.
Answer emails.
Edit previews or finish editing the session or wedding I was working on earlier in the day.
Watch Jeopardy.
Eat dinner.
Fall asleep to Netflix
What are you looking forward to most at the Rad Photographers Retreat?
Helping others succeed, grow, and see their self-worth.
Send me a photo of your favorite wedding, photo, or project and why?
I have photographed over 225 weddings and every one is amazing in their own way so it would be so hard to pick a wedding photo that is my favorite, so let’s go with a personal project called #WatchVíkGrow. I created a hashtag on instagram and I have been posting weekly photos of Vík in front of our massive pocket door with my Pentax camera. The photos are adorable and I love this time I have with my puppy every week. Studio 29 Photography - dog photos - Rad Photographers Retreat
